Child Shares Christmas Spirit

| Posted by: Charlene Perez | Categories:

Throughout the Christmas season, scores of local adults do their best to see the neediest children have something under the Christmas tree.  This year a 5-year-old named Lexsey passed the joy of her own birthday gifts on to others whose names hung from the Child Advocates Angel Tree.

"Her birthday is in November. And before we sent invitations out, we talked about maybe doing something for the kids I help," said Brooke McLemore, Lexsey's mother and a case supervisor for Child Advocates. "I asked her if she wanted to ask her friends for donations for the Angel Tree, and she thought it was a good idea."

As a Court Appointed Special Advocate, McLemore guides volunteers who represent children that have been removed from their families because of abuse or neglect through the family court system. She admited it isn't unusual for her to see kids with little more than the clothes on their backs, and those often in poor condition,"

"She understands not all children have the things she does," McLemore said. "We set up a coffee can for the donations, and she was thrilled every time someone sent a gift for the Angel Tree. She loves to share."

All the angels on the Child Advocates Tree were adopted.
