Speak Up For Kids CASA 5K Walk/Run

CASA 5K Race Results

It poured down rain on April 17th for our 2010 CASA 5K run, but over 150 people braved the weather to join us and another 300 people signed up as ‘phantom runners’ to show their support. One runner who joined us on Saturday logged on to the website after the race to share,

“Even though the rain was pouring down, I have to say this is an experience I will never forget. I did the walk with my Mom-in-Law and we walked the whole (5K) in the rain and wind. I loved seeing all the people that came out and ran/walked for such a great cause… I can’t wait to do it again next year!”

Child Advocates would like to thank the following sponsors and individuals for helping to make our 4th annual CASA 5K run/walk a great success! Despite the rain, the event on April 17th drew 150 runners and 300 phantom runners. Overall the event raised over $25,500 for Child Advocates’ CASA program.

About the CASA 5K Statewide Series:

Speak Up For Kids CASA 5K events across the state raise funds and friends for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate™) volunteers who speak up for abused and neglected children. The Speak Up For Kids CASA 5K Series is proudly presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas and is supported by Texas CASA.

Proceeds from the Wichita Falls race, will support local efforts to recruit and train CASA volunteers to give a “voice” to abused and neglected children in court and the foster care system.

Last year in Texas, more than 4,700 trained CASA volunteers strived to find safe, loving and permanent homes for 20,233 abused and neglected children. These CASA volunteers gain a firm understanding of a child’s case and serve as the “eyes and ears” to a judge. Our vision is that every abused child in Texas has a CASA volunteer to speak up for them.

Your participation makes a difference! So, walk, run, or jog-- and give a voice to Texas children.
